Buffy Casablanca Poster poppy wreath RS

It's all over but for the voting' : btvsats20in20 ROUND 8

I promised this round I would do a better job of pimping all along the way. I haven't kept my promise. RL got in the way (or I let it get in the way) *le sigh*

But enough of that! Vote NOW for your favorite icons in Round 8 of btvsats20in20, and thank you VERY much to bangel_4e for moderating this round and doing a splendid job of it:

THEMES: 10 in all which means you must hit the Vote button ten times. Going all the way to the bottom and hitting it once won't do. I know, I've tried. Profit from my mistakes, Gentle Reader.

CATEGORY (MOVIES) and ARTIST'S CHOICE: Select 1) your three favorite sets AND 2) your six favorite individiual icons in both; order of preference doesn't matter.

Voting deadline is April 10th.
That was an incredible difficult choice to make.

Wasn't it though? I did my usual "sleep on it overnight and vote the next morning" ritual. ;P

ETA: looking back over the themes, mono+text and names were definitely the most difficult choices for me. (Never mind choosing "3 sets and 6 icons")

The food icon BIGGER! :D

Yup. Actually, it's the other way around so to speak - I made the larger version first then tried and tried to downsize it and still retain the clarity. (I did end up experimenting with Photoshop Elements "unsharp mask" filter, I actually have no idea what that is, but it worked. That's in addition to Photobucket's Hi-Def filter plus ipiccy's sharpen and soften tools.)

In other words - PAAAAAAIIIIIIIINNNNNNN..... *LMAO*

I really would like to see a wallpaper size of all those Buffy and Willow standing in front of each other.

Your wish is my command:

S8 sucked in so many ways but Jo Chen made some amazing art! Look how pretty this one, with all the green and the characters looking like the actors!

Oh god yes! You remember my icons from the Chain cover, don't you? (I think I showed you the alts one time but I can dig them up again if you like)

I am a little amused by how busty Willow and Buffy are on that cover, but even a female artist isn't immune to the trope of giving all women large perky breasts (and tiny waists) in comic book art. Working on this last set especially I've been able to tell easier which stills or promo pics Chen used for some of her artwork.

If only the artwork inside ever came close to her's. But now we don't even have really good cover art anymore (le sigh)
Woooooooaaah!

Such beautiful artworks! I demand MOAR! This Willow/Buffy inspiration you're having is simply amazing, also because, as I said in the other comment, Alyson and Sarah are two beautiful women. I was seeing on Tumblr photos of Alyson with her daughters the other day and she's SO FIT.

I ADORED Jo Chen's art even if the boobs were huge and on that matter I wished she just respected both Aly and Sarah's physical appareance. I don't get this fixation for huge boobs. I honestly think that Buffy's boobs were already very arousing (Bless Sarah going bra-less sometimes :3)

But I think that Phil Noto does some amazing covers too:

And Steve Morris is great at symbolism. Just look at this one, from Angel&Faith:

This is actually one of the most beautiful covers I've ever saw in general.

Thank you kindly ma'am! The fact that you've mentioning my stuff and Jo Chen's work in the same breath is a HUGE compliment! (And yes, I am working on more right now.)

I feel like this Willow/Buffy inspiration is something I've been holding inside for a while, just waiting until I got the skill to express it maybe? Because the Willow & Buffy friendship was one of my favorite things about the show. (I wish S7 had given them more time together, more moments like the end of STSP - it's interesting to look back at the other seasons and see how much time they had together it gets forgotten and set aside in preference to the various ships. But that's sort of the refrain regarding S7 anyhow - not enough time for the important things, too much time on the stuff I don't care about.)

I was seeing on Tumblr photos of Alyson with her daughters the other day and she's SO FIT.

Is she? I liked it a couple of years ago when she was kind of "plump" and curvaceous - and I liked that HIMYM let her be normal-sized and wear sexy lingerie and not make her weight into a joke. But I also saw her in an interview on Ellen Degeneres show that Aly had seen nasty comments about her weight after the birth of her first child online and decided to get back into shape. Shame on those people for shaming her.

But I think that Phil Noto does some amazing covers too:

To be honest that is the only Phil Noto cover I truly like unreservedly. A lot of the covers feel "cold" to me, especially when compared to Morris or Chen's art. They look like he's cutting and pasting. But that Spuffy cover was total love. He didn't make Buffy look exactly like Sarah or even Spike look exactly like James but he caught something about both of them - the spirit, the way they interact - that's somehow lacking for me in his other covers.

That Morris cover is nifty although I'm assuming it's Faith rather than a random dark-haired Slayer and I guess it has something to do with her ethnicity/identity?

Thank you kindly ma'am! The fact that you've mentioning my stuff and Jo Chen's work in the same breath is a HUGE compliment! (And yes, I am working on more right now.)

The Muses bless you and your artistic spirit.

I love Willow/Buffy friendship so much and it feels very real to me, in a way that maybe other friendships don't. But I had hard times with it during S6 and in S7 they didn't mend the wounds as they should have been. It was too fast.

I've always assumed that Alyson was naturally very slender. At least, she never seemed anorexic to me, just very thin. Now, of course, she's older and she had two kids and she's more normal-size but honestly she's very beautiful so wtf is wrong with people? XD

This some recent photos, I think. Look how fit she is:

(The blog is Lil' Gingers and it's all about Alyson and her family. I feel kinda guilty following it because it's private stuff and there are little girls, but honestly IT'S SO DAMN CUTE AND THEY LOOK SO PRETTY ALL THE TIME. Also look how cool Alyson dresses: http://lilgingers.tumblr.com/post/114002684914/alyson-hannigans-alphabet-o-o-outfits FASHION ICON, TBH)

I agree about the Spuffy cover: he captured the banter between them with Spike looking all smug and Buffy kinda scared XD I love that.

The Morris cover is about Faith and, as you can see, the mask is Buffy's face.
The Muses bless you and your artistic spirit.

I accept accept the blessing with gratitude.

YES YES YES YES YES. To all of this.

I think the tendency of actresses to give in to pressure and become stick-thin, and the media to sell us on the idea that THAT is what "beauty" means, warps people's minds. Because otherwise, I got nothing.

And yeah, that is the sort of blog that makes me a little nervous. The need people have to turn babies into celebrities is truly weird to me.

as you can see, the mask is Buffy's face.

I actually couldn't tell until you said that and I looked again. So that's the only way to find comics art that looks like buffy (sarah) this season? And what is the deal anyway? That Faith still has "Buffy issues"? are they still banging that drum? Bored now. Buffy gets kicked in the ass over and over in the comics and I'm still supposed to feel sorry for Faith's baggage? Sorry but no.

OT or maybe not, did you see what drusillathekiller recently wrote on her tumblr?:

Characters who have been through unimaginable trauma:
Buffy Summers.
Dawn Summers.
Drusilla Keeble.

Characters who constantly have their trauma dismissed by the fandom:
Buffy Summers.
Dawn Summers.
Drusilla Keeble.

Can I get a fucking AMEN and HELL YES?! Because that pretty much says it all.

I feel guilty mostly because it's private stuff (Like pictures taken while they go out buying stuff) and the children cannot give their consent to this. I stopped looking at SMG's children pictures after she said she wanted to keep her kids out of the spotlight. But the edits are so cute >O< And all the Alyson centric posts are so pretty and I love how she dresses! I'm problematic, my friend.

I was mostly worried about SMG back in her Buffy days, because in S4 she gets so thin and she's wasn't like that in S1. Alyson was always kinda the same weight, so I assumed that she was just like that.

Oh, the issue was the Riley one. Basically Riley becomes prisoner of primal vampires in Africa and Faith is sent to help to rescue him. So the thing was referring to S4, when Faith stole Buffy's body and had sex with Riley. I was curious to see another take on the matter, because in my opinion Riley was raped that time (He couldn't give his consent, he thought that his lover was Buffy) and so Faith hurt him and Buffy too. But the issue was very bland. I liked the art, though. Very expressive and very good.

And AMEN about Dawn, Dru and Buffy.
