Buffy Casablanca Poster poppy wreath RS

Daily Dose of your 20in20 update!

bangel_4e has given my revised set of entries the Official Moderator Seal of Spproval and we're a go! Woohoo! I swear I haven't been this nervous since - last month when I took a food prep certification exam and I thought I was going to be sick (and wouldn't that have been a nice bit of irony?) NERRRRRVES. Have you seen the other entries in this round? If you haven't you really should (although if you're reading this you probably have and don't mind me. Still nervous.)

You'd think I was a kid in college or something. Come on, it's "just" icons, right? I need another cup of tea. Maybe a pot of it. Strong and black.

And in other Earth Shattering Icon News: I decided finally to let go of my Dead Things/Laughing icon because I realized that since I picked up spikesredqueen's S5 Buffy icon as my new default picture, I hardly use the other anymore. It's redundant now, and not nearly as beautiful (all I can see are the flaws anymore.) In fact I hardly use several others anymore since I picked that one up. A perfect icon is perfection.
Oh hello you! You've been on my mind lately was your cerebral cortex burning? *lol* I've felt badly about not getting back to your last comments to me, you always have such interesting things to say - I want to discuss, I get swamped. (/*excuses*)

Thank you ever so much for the compliments and support it means a lot coming from accomplished artists such as yourself!
I've felt badly about not getting back to your last comments

Don't worry in the least!! We can pick up the conversation any time. I've been hanging back a little lately, but I've read your posts and it's nice that you are having so much fun making icons!
Your icons are getting better all the time, btw

I'm popping on a break from work and just had to reply Gabrielle - pretend I'm using an icon for "happy tears" because you made my day with that. I love hugs and puppies and "good job" but reading that is really special and specific because that's what I hope for and try to achieve, to continually improve.
I know exactly how you feel because that's exactly what I hope is true with my writing. *hugs* And you really are continuing to grow and improve as an artist.

Gabrielle
that's exactly what I hope is true with my writing.

And I see you as someone who has mastered the characterization of post-series Willow. Has there ever been a moment when you've said to yourself "Yes, I've arrived" as a writer or is that anyone who is serious about what they do is constantly dissatisfied?
Thank you! No, there's never been a moment where I've thought I was as good as I should be, though there are stories of which I'm proud.

Gabrielle
Hmmm... I guess probably The Secret (the rewrite), This Is the End for Which We Twain Are Met, Out of the Grey, Tea and Crumbling, and In the Dark (the What's a Nice Jewish Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This remix).

Gabrielle
Gosh! Thanks!

Oh, and if you're in the mood for something short (besides Tea and Crumbling), you might want to add Soft and Pink and Very Sad. I linked to it in my retrospective post today.

Gabrielle
More recs thank you! I get overwhelmed with all the good stuff in this fandom and sometimes need to be pointed down the hallway so to speak.

And I might be in the mood anywayor at least have more time - I just posted about a bit of bad news I got re: my one source of income being yanked away. *le sigh*
I understand the nervous thing, like I said before I still get nervous but it lessens over time the more you do 20in20's. Again, fab entries!
I'm not sure if I'm cut out for 20in20's to be honest - I've got to improve my tendency to make 9x more icons than I actually need! (I did do the math, btw.)

But then another part of me LOVES that this isn't anonymous, loves that I can put them out there and get immediate feedback. It's scrumptious.

And THANK YOU, dear, really; I'm surrounded by incredible and accomplished artists like yourself and to hear that I did all right is a wonderful reward.

BTW - your Surprise icon, did you make that? HOW do you get those wonderfully smooth, soft ivory skin tones? And I love the balance of softness and HQ detail you get - the muscles in her hand beneath her skin. How is that possible?
Thanks! Yes, I did make that icon. I am not exactly sure how to answer that question because I made it some time ago, but I will try. I use Photoshop CS 5 right now when I make any graphics. The coloring has to do with using the right brightness and contrast and the right screencaps. It took me awhile to get used to brightening and sharpening the right amount to get a clear picture. This probably wasn't a very clear explanation, sorry!

I understand that completely - those are all the primary tools in my toolkit! (If you'd said something like OTOH "gaussian filters" whatever that is, I'd be in trouble.)

I love learning and playing with fancier effects in ipiccy but it always starts with the basics.
