The woes of a fangirl/buffyverse addict - quickie version

A few days ago I had 599 messages in my inbox - some dating to last year that I WANT to respond to and never will.

Because today I have 667. HOW THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN? I'm putting off really important tasks, will piss off my partner at some point (who works her ass off at an actual job), I have to walk my ass down the street for a doctor's appointment - and am loving EVERY minute of it.

FYI: the folks who played along with my icon meme post the other day have posted their own answers on their journals. Be kind and check out their wonderful answers.

... I friended you? *ducks* No, I don't think I can take the credit for ALL those comments... (Don't let it interfere with life TOO much. RL people get cross and they're difficult to avoid.)

But, since I'm here, I shall leave you with my favourite Doctor Who S5 trailer (which is also quite possibly my favourite trailer for anything, ever):

Nah, I've already blamed Clockwork....and bonedry_1013, and Comlodge is a repeat offender AND I have a ton of birthday greetings I haven't returned yet and....but, yeah, you're in their the mix too. :)

That trailer is astonishing - I can't believe the difference from the old Doctor Who. (The black and white eps - the first and second dr - were actually state of the art for their day and some of them hold up rather well. Once they switched to color then it's almost more obvious that its a lot of cardboard and rick-rack.)

But this looks like a feature film. And they do that how many episodes a season? I can't imagine the costs.

A (former) friend of mine was besotted by the 10th doctor but Matt Smith has a very Old-school vibe to him; a younger version of both Patrick Troughton and my beloved Sylvester McCoy - a Doctor who is by turns funny and fierce.

13 episodes per season. (45 minutes each.) Plus a 1 hour Christmas Special.

*nods a lot* I never even knew about Doctor Who when I grew up (Scandinavian here), and I came to the UK in 1996, so the only things I was aware of when the show returned was 'weird alien with a long scarf', TARDIS (bigger on the inside) and Daleks. I came to it straight from Buffy, and after a few years fell for it properly - and partly because it fitted very well with my Buffy mindset - Russel T. Davies is quite a bit like Joss (esp when it comes to stabbing the viewers in the back - if people are happy, I automatically assume that HORRIBLE things are about to happen to them. And I was very fond of Ten (even of he turned into a giant ball of man!pain towards the end). But when Eleven turned up, it was the weirdest thing - and I can't even explain it now. I just knew that somehow this was how/who the Doctor was supposed to be. Something just clicked.

And that's as much rambling as I'll allow myself right now. Hope you get a chance to watch soon-ish, and am slightly jealous that you still have it all to come. All the magic! ♥

ETA: Do NOT read my most recent icon post. No really. It'll spoil you like crazy, and you don't want to be spoiled, trust me!

In any given thread I'm participating in, there's a good chance half the comments will be mine anyway. Wanna thumb-wrestle for the title?

I noticed when I watched "Kingdom" last year (with Stephen Fry) that each season was quite short and wondered if that was true of UK series in general. Btvs' 22 eps a season is still the norm here.

And I saw the warning on your icons post re: spoilers, so I'm heeding that. Did you ever watch the 9th doctor btw?

I was surprised that Matt smith is already leaving but in fact most actors have had a fairly brief run - Tom Baker was an exception (he was my friend Christine's favorite Dr, then Pertwee, Davidson and Troughton, but Sylvester McCoy's eps were running on "real" time in the US and we enjoyed him together and the feminist quality of the arcs focused on Ace as I've mentioned. So he's still dear to my heart.

I guess I'd better start naming them with their numbers rather than by the actor's names if I want to be "in the know". (or pretend to be such.)

I've had my LJ for 9 years. I have in that time posted 46,527 comments. (Am unsure whether this is in my own journal, or LJ as a whole.)

A lot of shows (over here) have seasons that are only 6 episodes long. Comedy series especially.

Oh yes. I was watching when the very first episode was broadcast! :) Am very fond of Nine - S1 in general is very solid, despite being wonky on account of rebooting everything and working out what they were doing. But the overall arc is good.

He's been there for 4 years (3 series), the same as David Tennant. Nine only had a single year. Not that I wouldn't kep my Eleventy FOREVER, but... He's had a good run, y'know? (That's all I can say for now.)

Anyway, am off to the cinema now, so will reply to your other comment later!
I loved the icon meme, but I have been posting fic and did not wish to spam, so no, I did not post it in my LJ.

Good luck with your email.

Gabrielle
You're the only one who didn't hon, which is totally cool. I did mine on Kikimay's the way you did here; then I decided to repeat here for shits and giggles sake (a.k.a procrastinating like a fiend.)

Actually it's kind of a weird concept - everyone is doing it on their own LJ's mostly - which makes sense because everyone has different flists but - then you have to go hither and yon to see everyone else's answers. instead of being centralized.

BTW - my email? did you think I meant my email inbox? No, my LJ inbox. My email inbox only has 400 and some. ;)
I will be responding to your icon meme at your journal. Most likely after my Zumba class tonight.
I feel like a large number of those messages are my fault. Like this one. I spam like a PRO.

Sorry.

BUT, in my defence - we have the best conversations, and I give you presents that make everything better.

*hugs?*
Why yes you are primarily to blame...*SNORFLE*

I'm starting to wear out my laughing icon - which is not a bad thing!

Like I said - lovin' every minute of it, sweetie! I'll hug back if that won't interfere with your tubes too much?
Oh yes - LJ is great, but sadly RL seems to think it has to take over sometimes! ... That's so wrong!

Hope all is well at the docs.
Thanks for the support hon! And yes, RL? *pffftttt*

BTW- did I miss that icon previously or is that a new one? Very pretty.
*g* - I had to check which one I used! It's one of my earlier attempts in actual fact. When I started making icons I found it easier having a strict prompt to give me a starting point ... and these had to be iconed from that episode. When I saw that wistful look on her face the phrase came to me ... and thus the icon.

Finds another Buffy icon to use!
I saw that one as well! I did try not to lean too heavily on icons that had Buffy because I have such a prejudice towards her. (your Sword icon was so singular I had to chose it.)

Recently when I made icons of my own I often wished I could do text. I used to be able on the older Photobucket editing suite but just when I had it mastered (see my "Lesbian vampire" icon) they switched it - twice in one year.

One of the few things I dislike about this particular LJ template is that it shrinks all the icons in convo threads quite a bit and makes it hard to read the text.
Yes, I had spotted the mini-icons in your layout. One of the Star Trek group I commented on this week just shows the central cirle of the icon, which is even weirder IMHO!

I don't have Photobucket, but use GIMP ... that snags any fonts that you have on your pc, so I have uploaded a few different ones over the months ... as you can see here in this icon.
One of the things that I never did figure out when I say "mastered text" in the old version of Photobucket was horizontal text, which would have been most helpful. I certainly can't figure out the new version program. The one thing that the new program is superior to the old is that the "sharpen/brighten/etc" functions have a slider bar rather than discrete "points".

My sweetie and I tried downloading gimp on our old PC and - couldn't figure it out at the time and got rid of it. I'm not sure if there's a Mac version? that was a few years ago; I might have an easier time of it now.
I never had the money fro Photoshop, and also being colourblind I didn't know if I could actually do any good - so when I was rec'd to GIMP I thought I would give it a go!

I run Window's so maybe that is the problem for you.
